Deirdre is a fully qualified and registered practitioner of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine. She trained with the College of Integrative Acupuncture, Galway and Lansdowne College of Complementary Medicine, Dublin.
She has undertaken post-graduate studies with World-renowned practitioners of TCM: Giovanni Maciocia, Hung-Tsui Ying, Prof. Mei Xing, Dr. Richard Teh-Fu Tan, Dr. John Chen and extensive advanced training in with Dr. Henry McCann and Susan Johnson in Master Tung's lineage of acupuncture, which results in fast responses to treatments, including relief from pain.
Deirdre trained with Dr. Jidong Wu, Dr. Fanyi Meng and Prof. Jin Huide at the Irish Institute of Chinese Medicine for her Diploma in Chinese Herbal Medicine. She has worked in the Asante Academy London as well as in the Chinese Medicine Pain Clinic and Maternity Unit of The Whittington Hospital, London, which provide Traditional Chinese acupuncture to NHS patients.
She is currently studying for the M.Sc. in Oriental Medicine with the Northern College of Acupuncture in the UK (accredited by Middlesex University).

Deirdre is currently Chairperson of the Acupuncture Foundation Professional Association (AFPA), the regulatory body for Traditional acupuncturists in Ireland. She represents the profession both nationally and at European level as a member of the European Traditional Chinese Medicine Association (ETCMA). The profession has been engaged with the DoH, HETAC and QQI for many years in endeavouring to secure academic validation and statutory regulation of acupuncturists in Ireland and also with leaders of Chinese Medicine professions in Europe and the World Health Organisation to ensure the highest standards of practice in the interests of the public.
Deirdre has shared her passion for TCM on radio and in print, including the first article on any complementary medicine to appear in the HSE "Health Matters" magazine which was published in the Spring 2012 edition.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) recognises many diseases, symptoms and conditions for which acupuncture has been proved - through controlled trials - to be an effective treatment.
Treatments are approved by VHI, Quinn-Healthcare, Hibernian Health and other health insurance schemes.
